LUCIA VALENTINA GAMBUZZA

Education and training

In October 2018 she received the National scientific qualification as Associate Professor in the field Automatica ING-INF/04.

In January 2014 she received the PhD Degree in Systems Engineering at the University of Catania with the thesis entitled "Memristor and networks: new structure for complexity".
In 2010 she received the Master Degree in Automation Engineering and Control of Complex Systems (110/110 cum laude) at the University of Catania.


Current position

Since 08/05/2020 she has a research scholarship at University of Catania developing the program “Tecniche di controllo di reti complesse basate sul controllo della matrice Laplaciana”.


Previous positions

From 03/03/2014 to 02/03/2020 she was Postdoctoral Researcher at University of Catania, developing the programs "Control of chaotic circuits based on memristors" and "Memristive synapses for adaptive consensus/synchronization".
She regularly supervises Bachelor and Master Students in their thesis work.

Since October 2018 she teaches control systems technologies at University of Catania.

Since October 2010 to October 2013 she was PhD Student of the course Systems Engineering at the University of Catania.

She was tutor for the course "Robust Control", in Master degree in Automation and Control of Complex Systems, in the academic year 2012/13.

Research activity

Her research activity is summarized in 40 scientific contributions in international journals and conferences, and is mainly focused in the following areas:
- analysis and control of complex systems,
- memristor;
- synchronization of complex systems;
- nonlinear dynamics and chaos.

The research is carried out with the following collaborations: New York University Tandon School of Engineering, US (M. Porfiri); University of Zaragoza, Spain (J. Gomez-Gardenes); Technical University of Berlin, Germany (P. Hoevel); University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK (E. Estrada); Istituto Nazionale di Ottica Applicata, Firenze (R. Meucci); Istituto di Sistemi Complessi, CNR Firenze (S. Boccaletti): University of Bristol UK (E. Gale); Democritus University of Thrace, Greece (G. Ch. Sirakoulis).


Organization and editorial activities

Since January 2017 she is Associate Editor of Chaos Solitons and Fractals.

Since November 2017 she is Associate Editor of Complexity.

She was special session chair of the 23rd European Conference on Circuit Theory and Design (ECCTD 2017).

Chair of participant session for the "International School on Informatics and Dynamics in Complex Networks" which was held in Catania 15-19/10/2018 and for the 2nd edition which was held in Catania 10-14/02/2020.

Organizer of the Special Session "The backbone of nonlinear dynamics: from cellular to complex networks" for CNNA 2018 (16th International Workshop on Cellular Nanoscale Networks and their Applications), 28-30 Agosto 2018, Budapest, Hungary.

Component of the Local organizing committee for NDES, Nonlinear Dynamics of Electronic Systems, held in Acireale 11-13/06/2018.

She regularly serves as Referee for many international journals, among which: Int. Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, Nonlinear Dynamics, Chaos Solitons and Fractals, International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I.



Participation in research projects

Member of the research unit of the University of Catania within the national project PRIN 2017 - ADVANCED NETWORK CONTROL OF FUTURE SMART GRIDS.
Member of the research unit of the University of Catania within the COST Action IC1401 MEMOCIS "Memristors - Devices, Models, Circuits, Systems and Applications" (2014-present)
