Il Prof. Antonino Petralia, nato a Mascali (CT) il 19.12.1959, si è laureato in Medicina e Chirurgia il 3/07/84.
Dal 1983 al 1989 ha frequentato, prima come studente-tesista, poi come medico interno e specializzando ed infine come dottorando di ricerca la Clinica Psichiatrica dell’Università di Catania dove dal 25.01.1990 svolge il ruolo di Dirigente Medico e dal 2019 di Vice –Direttore.
Il 2.10.90 ha conseguito il titolo di Dottore di ricerca in Psicobiologia delle turbe mentali discutendo la tesi su "Biologia e psicodiagnostica del disturbo da attacchi di panico" e il 6.12.91 ha discusso la tesi di specializzazione in psichiatria "approccio integrato psiconeuroendocrino e neuropsicologico allo studio sincronico e diacronico della schizofrenia”.
Per le competenze acquisite in campo neuropsicofarmacologico è stato Consigliere e Revisore dei conti nella Società Italiana di Neuropsicofarmacologia, rispettivamente, nei trienni 1992-95 e 1995-98.
Dalla data di assunzione presso la Clinica psichiatrica (25.01.1990) ha svolto attività assistenziale nell’ambito della degenza ordinaria, del day hospital e dell’ambulatorio per il disturbo da attacchi di panico di cui è responsabile.
Attualmente ricopre il ruolo di Professore aggregato di psichiatria dell’area scientifico-disciplinare MED/25, Psichiatria e, oltre, all’attività di didattica, ha sviluppato attività di ricerca focalizzando la sua attenzione sull'approfondimento degli aspetti biologici, nosografici terapeutici e riabilitativi della patologia mentale dell'adulto e dell’età evolutiva. Ha pubblicato 2 trattati di psichiatria, 7 monografie, e 218 lavori scientifici su riviste nazionali ed internazionali.
Ha partecipato, in qualità di Sperimentatore principale in 45 protocolli di ricerca farmacologica eseguiti in osservanza delle GCP:
Esperto in ambito psichiatrico-forense, da circa 25 anni collabora con Giudici, Pubblici Ministeri ed Avvocati nella gestione di problematiche psichiatriche in ambito penale, civile, del lavoro, degli Adulti e dei Minori.
Dal 2016 al 2019 è stato Presidente della sezione siciliana della Società Italiana di Psichiatria.
Vice Direttore dal 17.12.2018, dal 2.12.2023 è Direttore della U.O. Clinica Psichiatrica dell'A.O.U. Policlinico-San Marco

Clinical activities with direct responsibility for inpatients
since 2.01.93 to present of the Unit of Psychiatry
Direct diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, both pharmacological and psychotherapeutic, and with coordination, organization and supervision of physicians in training at the School of Specialization in Psychiatry. Prof. Petralia has also been responsible for the planning and supervision of Individualized Therapeutic Programs and of any short-term rehabilitation plans, during the inpatient stay, and long term (PTRI) through outpatient activities. The prevalent typology was represented by mood disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, organic disorders, etc. in all degrees of severity. Consistent with the mission of a university department, there was no lack of rare pathologies.
• Diagnostic assessment of psychiatric pathologies

Psychodiagnostic investigations, monitoring of psychopharmacological therapy, psychotherapy integrated with psychopharmacological therapy, psychoeducational approach to psychiatric diseases, treatment of psychiatric diseases resistant to therapy.

direct interventions of a diagnostic and therapeutic nature, both pharmacological and psychotherapeutic, and with coordination, organization and supervision of the Doctors in training at the School of Specialization in Psychiatry. It was also responsible for the planning and supervision of individualized therapeutic programs and any long-term rehabilitation plans. In particular, the prevalent typology was represented by mood disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, organic disorders, etc. in all degrees of severity.
• Supervision on the Students of the Course of Degree for Technicians of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation in the Planning, management, organization, of interventions to rehabilitative character both individual and group, directed to patients hospitalized and not.

• Prof. Antonino Petralia, was born in Mascali (CT) on 19.12.1959. He acheived Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery on 3/07/84. In 02.10.1990 he obtained the PhD in Psychobiology of mental disorders, with a thesis in "Biology and psychodiagnostic of panic disorder". In 06/12/1991 he obtained specialization in psychiatry. He was Director and Auditor of the Italian Association of Neuropsychopharmacology from 1992 to 1998, for his competences in neuropsychopharmacology. From 25/01/1990 he carried out assistance activities in the Department of Psychiatry for inpatient and outpatient. Beside he is the chief of a specialized Unit for anxiety disorders.

• Since 1983 till 1989 he attended the Psychiatric Clinic of the University of Catania, first as a student-undergraduate, then as an internal doctor and postgraduate student and finally as a research doctorate at the Psychiatric Clinic of the University of Catania where from 25.01.1990 he held the role of Lecturer in the MED scientific-disciplinary area/25, Psychiatry.
• On 2.10.90 he obtained the title of PhD in Psychobiology of mental disorders with a thesis on "Biology and psychodiagnostics of panic disorder" and on 6.12.91 he discussed the specialization thesis in psychiatry "integrated psychoneuroendocrine approach and neuropsychological to the synchronic and diachronic study of schizophrenia ".
• For the skills acquired in the neuropsychopharmacological field he was Director and Auditor in the Italian Society of Neuropsychopharmacology, respectively, in the three years 1992-95 and 1995-98. He is currently secretary of the Sicilian section of the Italian Society of Psychiatry.
• From the date of hiring at the Psychiatric Clinic (25.01.1990) he has carried out assistance activities in the context of ordinary hospitalization, the Day Hospital and the outpatient clinic for anxiety and mood disorders for which he is responsible. Since 2019 he is Deputy Director. Dal 2.12.2023 Director of U.O. of Clinical Psychiatry of A.O.U. Policlinico-San Marco
• He currently holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry and, in addition to teaching activity, has developed research activity focusing his attention on the in-depth study of the biological, nosographic, therapeutic, rehabilitative and forensic aspects of the mental pathology of adults and of developmental age. He has published 2 psychiatry treatises, 7 monographs, and 212 scientific papers in national and international journals.
• Expert in the psychiatric-forensic field, for about 25 years he has collaborated with Judges, Public Prosecutors and Lawyers in the management of psychiatric problems in the peal, civil, labor, adults and minor fields.
